Buyer Wants eBay Item Number On Shipping Label.

I have several buyers lately request that I write the eBay item number on the shipping label or on the exterior of the package and I think this is a very bad idea.

I contacted eBay CS by phone to ask their policy and they stated that all the information that is needed is on the shipping label.

I have lost three items—I sell rare vintage watches—in the past year while being shipped via USPS, so I am very concerned about giving thieves any more information than needed to ship the item.

I always explicitly state in my description: "NO SALES OUTSIDE USA," but these sales are obviously being purchased by buyers in other countries via straw buyers that bundle items for bulk shipment to Asia (that's my experience).

Today, I sold a watch and the buyers sends me a canned request stating to ship to a different name (same address) than listed on the PP label, and to write the eBay item number "clearly" on the label.

I refused to do either and sent the item with the label listed in PP.

Can someone please give me the PP policy on these requests? I is an obvious eye catcher for criminals and it seems PP, as eBay, would say to ship to the address/name on the PP label and to NOT add item numbers to the label.

Thanks for ay assistance.

Hi Dave,

I don't think PayPal (or eBay) has a policy on this.
