Typical response of a Paypal employee.  Do you do anything to fix the inappropriate behavior of your employees...no, you come here and call your customers names.   This is why Paypal has a well-deserved reputation of having not only terrible customer service but actually ABUSIVE customer service.   That is what makes us wonder about the rest of the company.  When your customers are treated capriciously, their accounts frozen without reason, more "verification" required after a decade of no complaints, then we start realizing that Paypal has some serious problems.   And your response is so typical of the customer service Paypal guys who come here, never admit they are customer service, never help anyone, and just abuse the paypal customers. ... SinjCeridan - a very nice summary of the problem.   When I began to be prompted for a credit card for a $20 purchase when I had over $1,000 in my paypal account it made me VERY nervous.   I immediately transfered most of my balance OUT of paypal and then removed it from the attached bank account.  I also had my bank put a block on my bank account so that paypal can't remove money from it.   I don't know what's going on with Paypal but I totally do not trust them.   When I attempted to resolve the problem with phone customer service, they guy started asking totally inappropriate questions, ("Are you married") which set off alarm bells.   Paypal is under court order to provide phone customer service but I think that, like Time Warner does, they are hiring prisoners to do their customer service and don't really give a sh** what they say or do.  Paypal is not in the business of offering customer service.  They are in the business of making a buck off us, irresponsibly, capriciously and without concern. ... As Paypal is so fond of saying, "Read your paypal user agreement"  (Which, btw, changes often and without notice)   Paypal can do ANYTHING they want with your money and since they aren't regulated like a bank, you have no recourse but to either sue them (expensive) or complain to your Attorney General. ... I mistyped.  As far as I know paypal is still owned by ebay and it seems that may be the cause of Paypal turning on its customers.  I'm a seller (not on ebay) and I'm getting this credit card craap.   The previous poster who talked about Paypal being unregulated and unresponsive is right on.   Notice that I've been posting here in Paypal's OWN forum for over a week and NOT ONE PAYPAL EMPLOYEE has offered to solve my problem.   And...just a reminder...when I foolishly called customer support, I got sexually harrassed by some numbskull who (again) was absolutely NO help at all...leading me to think they're hiring prisoners or something because not only was this paypal guy unprofessional, (and unBELIEVABLE) he was useless, unininformed and not very bright.   I've told this story (with transcript of phone call) in several of these Paypal forums.  No one has done anything about this phone guy and just beware women, because you might get him next time.   Clearly Paypal doesn't give a rat's asss about us. ... Yes lvly's message makes absolutely no sense.   This new change in policy has arisen since paypal was purchased from ebay and seems to be connected with some pretty shady policies that end up with people's cards being charged without their permission.   This is why I no longer buy things with paypal and only pay via credit card directly.  That way I have the protection of the laws regulating banks and credit card companies.   Paypal is not regulated and this nonsense is an example of how they are abusing the trust of their customers. ... This is a REALLY, REALLY bad idea!!!!!!!   Paypal is not a bank.   Paypal is not required to let you spend any money in your account.   Paypal has a history of locking people out of their accounts...for 180 days or even longer   Use a REAL bank which is regulated and which you have some recourse.  Notice that Paypal staff rarely reply to anyone's problems here except to call them names or offer unhelpful general advice.  Last time I called customer support the guy sexuall harrassed me (little did he know I am a grandmother) and then hung up without helping at all.   You don't want your money with a business that has no accoutability or regulation. ... Lots of luck getting an explanation.  I called paypal support and apparently got the Paypal sexual harrassment hotline instead.   No one has been able to explain this but when it happened to me, I started googling and found out all the reasons you will NEVER want to give Paypal your credit card.  Apparently they just capriciously use your bank account or credit card INSTEAD of your paypal balance.   People theorize that this is because they are using your paypal balance interest free to make money and they want to keep as much money in it as possible.   Whatever the reason, I completely lost my trust in Paypal after using them for over a decade.  Something has changed since they were bought out by ebay and not for the better. ...
