I read in the WSJ today that more than 50% of people have used the PayPal mobile app to pay merchants. I was not aware that you could even do this. So I watched the video on the Paypal web site to see how to use the mobile app. It said you can pay people only by using their e-mail address. The example it gave was paying a friend back for funds advanced at a dinner the previous night. But in the list of transactions, Starbucks (a merchant) was listed. I was not aware that Starbucks gave out their e-mail address for payment. Does the Paypal app support NFC technology like Apple Pay does, or am I missing something. How is the majority of consumers able to use the Paypal mobile app to pay merchants and I am not aware of it?
