Sad to see that PayPal's Automatic Payments are causing problems in Egypt as well.

PayPal's security measures in the UK in terms of allowing any merchant to set itself up for Automatic Payments and withdrawing any amount  they like is frankly laughably non-existent.  Please do let us know how easy it was to solve the problem in Egypt.

I think this unauthorized automatic payment problem is solely the responsibility of PayPal - and I think it should be boycotted if it does not develop a solution.

Must admit that I feel the same way. It is pathetic that despite complaints from at least 4 years ago that PayPal have not done anything to improve security in their Automatic Payment system. The original idea to provide variable direct facility was a good one but they omitted some crucial security features but I'm sure that some users find it useful, though I have not yet come across any positive comments on AP. I've called out to the community today to see what the general view is. I am hoping that at least PayPal UK will do something about it by referring the problem to the regulators but I do anticipate difficulties because PayPal US runs the same system with the same problems and PayPal UK may not be allowed by HQ in the USA to just change the system for the UK or Europe. But out of curiosity, are you really in Egypt or just using VPN? If in Egypt are you with PayPal Egypt?

Yes, I live in Egypt but again not sure country matters. I think it is company policy. So I guess I use PayPal Egypt or at least I used it. I have decided I no longer trust PayPal with my info and money. I don’t think they are better than using any other payment method and they are less safe than most methods. At least with the bank, every time my card is used, I have to enter a code before it is charged so I am aware my card is being used but with PayPal my card gets charged without my awareness and consent and then I have to report a problem which is unlikely to get me my money back. Unbelievable carelessness when it comes to handling customers’ money and complete lack of responsibility in responding to customer complaints. You have to ask the community to get an answer - no help otherwise. Not sure this is a company I will ever again trust with my money.
