I'm attempting to work with a seller on a refund. They want to know the brand name for my payment source. If it's a Visa, Amex, etc. Why do they need to know the brand name? I checked the process to issue a refund through Paypal and it does not require the name of my card supplier.

They do not need to know, all they need to do is click on your transaction in their paypal account and hit the refund option at the bottom of that details page.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I thought so. They also wanted the name of the bank that issued the card. Maybe it's just my preparedness getting the better of me, but seems very suspicious.
