The agreement with the seller on an auto-payment to the seller, who has nothing to do with my paypal agreement with paypal, means that I can choose to pay the seller through other means like a direct charge or debit from a credit card or debit card. These are alternatives to using paypal. So instead of using paypal (which is convenient because my cards are stored in my paypal wallet and I don't have to enter the information online once again) I can choose to pay the merchant for a purchase or future auto shipment using a particular credit or debit card instead of paying through paypal. Your information that the merchant makes the choice of how the paypal payment is to be made is FALSE.   The merchant has NOTHING to do with how the paypal payment by the person dealing with the merchant is processed. It is a contract between the person using paypal as a payment method and paypal. It is this person who DIRECTS how paypal will process the payment - e.g. if their paypal balance has to be used first or not or if  some particular card in their paypal wallet  is o be charged.   I have had a paypal account for over a decade and I also  happen to know the legal side of things. Thank you! I never had any agreement for access to my paypal balance. I use a certain credit card always for all my merchant transactions including all paypal transactions when I use it to pay a merchant or payment for an authorized autoship. So what paypal did was not correct. ... View more

The service representative lied to you. I just checked again. I have to have my bank account or a PAYPAL CREDIT CARD linked to my account. My present credit card is not a paypal credit card and they will not let me link to it! ... View more

I agree; it is the same situation with me, and the amazing thing is, is that I have a credit card linked to the account, but now they want a bank account, to verify my account. My account had been verified for ages and I only knew it was no longer verified when I tried to revise an ad I had on ebay. I was not allowed to revise the ad. and kept getting this message that I have to get my account verified to revise the ad! Ebay charged me a listing fee which I did not care to dispute as it was not worth my time.   Ebay changed its policies to accomodate large sellers and root out the smaller ones. It was a subtle move with the way they changed their fees etc. As paypal is with ebay, I am wondering if this is another ruse to get the smaller accounts out. No, I think I will call paypal. I contacted ebay because they would not let me revise an ad to sell unless I got verified by paypal. The ebay rep took time and I did not continue that conversation. ... View more
