pay with checking account, or pay with credit card

I have not used my paypal account in forever. i cant remember how it "works".  I have a bank account linked, and also a credit card linked to my pay pal account.

i do not see any setting or preference on which of these are used as the source for payment when i use my pay pal account.

if i use paypal to pay for something, will paypal use my bank account or my credit card?

how does this work?

and is it an option somewhere to say which one to use by default ?

it would be nice if some of these basic things were built into the webpage to explain how things work.

By default to uses your bank account, but when you checkout on a website, you will see the Funding Source screen to which you can change it from bank account to credit card. You should also keep in mind it will use any funds in your PayPal balance first.

Does paying with a Credit Card still apply if you are sending money to someone for a good/service instead of paying a bill or checking out online?

Was your question ever answered? I'm trying to do the same pay with bank account or credit card to send money without going directly to a website. Can't seem to figure it out. Says I need money in PayPal account first. Please help. Thanks!

Pleeeeease make sure you selected the PayPal account or Credit Card when you make a purchase. I just purchased three items on Ebay. I wanted all three paid by my credit card which is linked along with my bank account. PayPal overdrew my bank account; one item was sent twice and declined each time. PayPal then took the money from my credit card. The overdraw on my bank account cost me $90.00 for overdraft fees. The Sellers received their payments just fine and gave me good feedback, thankfully. I thought I had chosen the credit card when each transaction was being completed for payment. So this has been a costly experience for me. I wanted to share this with you so you wont have the same outcome as I had.

I am still trying to figure out how to transfer funds from my credit card to my PayPal account so this wont happen again.

PayPal will be easy for you to re-establish new ID and PW if you have forgotten them to get your account up and going again. There is one other thing. PayPal needed me to scan my social security card and upload to them; new law in their policy. I could not have full access to my account until this was done. You will probably want to make sure your account is all updated before you see a must have right now in eBay. Happy New Year.

Hi,

This is the answer I received from PayPal regarding using the credit card for purchases on eBay.

You can use your credit card to pay by selecting to pay just by using it not through PayPal. If in case you don’t see that option in your merchant’s website, you can ask them on how to do it

It's not giving me option to select bank account directly from the PayPal account under send money. Ok I will put that question out again. Thanks for your help.
