Accidental payment completed, but no funds in Paypal or bank?

So, I accidentally activated a Tidal subscription, and it charged $20 to Paypal. However, I have no money in my Paypal balance, and not enough money in the bank to cover the charge. However, the payment still went through and the subscription is active. From what I've read, it can take several business days for the charge to be made to my bank account. I'm worried about what will happen when Paypal attempts to charge my bank, but there is not enough money in the account. I don't want my account to be banned or something. Anybody have this happen to them?

As long as the PayPal request for funds is a typical debit transaction, then you're OK with the bank.  On the other hand, the PayPal request may not be just a debit request but something different like an echeck request; that would likely be handled differently by your bank.  I don't know the answer but just speculating as to how it might be handled.

If the debit request is denied by your bank your PayPal account woud likely go negative and you would eventually have to settle.  At that point PayPal also recognizes that your bank will not accept the debit request and your bank will likely be blocked from further use for PayPal.  PayPal wants backup funding to be reliable.  Blocking funds from  PayPal request may put your PayPal account in jeopardy.

I've read some forum discussions about users blocking bank funds from PayPal.

Go to your bank today and deposit cash.  It should be recorded before PayPal request arrives.

Unfortunately that is not an option. I have an online only bank. I should have money on Friday, but that would probably be too late... I've opened a ticket with Tidal, should I get in touch with PayPal as well? Not sure if I should open a dispute or not...

Why a dispute?   You were the only one who initiated the actions.

Your bank will likely have $20 non-sufficient funds fee; you would need to contact your bank about that.

Alright. I'll figure it out on my own. Thanks for your help!

I just checked my bank's website, and it says they will simply not authorize debit transactions when there are insufficient funds. What would PayPal do in this case, if I can't get the issue resolved quick enough with Tidal?

OK, thanks. Hopefully it does not come to my bank or account being blocked. If I can't get it resolved with Tidal I'll resolve the negative balance once I have the funds.
