Mercari and Paypal

I have money in my PayPal balance but when I bought some things from Mercari, and chose PayPal it's taking it off the card linked to PayPal, even though the balance is perferred payment method.

Even when preferred payment methods are set there is still typically an option of where to pull from during merchant/paypal transaction.  In the old days the paypal balance was solely used first but now a days that is not the case, I have assumptions as to why but they are only speculative.

did you ever figured this out? mine does this too. so frustrating. i have a balance but doing paypal thru mercari is not giving me the option to pay with gen balance. I don't want to use my card on apps like that.

Most likely a security and risk issue.  PayPal will change the funding source to protect it's own business.  Purchases which are higher risk of dispute or losss, such as virtual items, will likely be diverted to a lower risk funding source such as credit card.

Money in your PayPal funds can easily be moved in and out by the member and that creates risk for PayPal.

I suspect your purchase history could also have some implact on funding sourse as would any past disputes.

It's just the way the system works now.

it is because mercary dont use paypal. that is why sellers on mercary dont get pay with paypal but with a direct bank deposit, for example i a mercari seller someone bought an item from me i dont get money in my paypal as a mercari seller i have 2 options use my valance in mercari or ask for a direct deposit to my bank.  mercari buyers pay with cards i dont know as a seller if you can use paypal but for what i know they ask you for a card.
