Paypal sending echecks instead of using my debit card. Help!

I made an order recently on ebay that was supposed to be taken from my bank account/debit card, but instead it sent an eCheck ?!? The auction I won requires payment within 2 days, and I cannot wait 6 days for the eCheck to go through. I was told that if the seller cancels the order due to nonpayment  that I can get a strike against me from Ebay, and that with only a couple of these strikes, I won't be allowed to buy or sell on Ebay. I have bought a lot of things off Ebay and plan to sell a lot of things on Ebay, so I can't let this happen. This has happened a couple of times before, but luckily I've been able to deal with the sellers, and they have waited for the eChecks.

I have plenty of money in my account to cover the purchase, and I made several other purchases close to the same time, and they went through fine. I have a screenshot of my cart at checkout that shows the payment method as my bank account/debit card. Nowhere on it does it say anything about paying by eCheck. Bottom line, I need to find out WHY most orders go through just fine, but some orders are having eChecks sent, when there's no reason they should be. And HOW to fix it when it does happen. If they're going to send an eCheck, it should state this in your cart when you check out !!!

Would appreciate any help or info on this.

Thanks.

Under ebay rules sellers have to accept all paypal payments and an echeque is a paypal payment.

You have paid the minute that you completed checkout and the seller has to wait for it to clear.

If he cancels it then you can report him as a non performing seller and if he files an unpaid item dispute all you have to do is provide the transaction id of the payment to show that you did pay and you should not get a strike.

An echeque is normally sent when you either do not have a back up card linked or that card has expired and needs updating.

It can also happen if you have had failed bank transfers or a negative balance.

That's a bit of good news about not getting a strike. That's the main thing I was worried about.

I've got a bank account and backup card linked, nothing is expired or needs updating, and I'm 100% verified with PayPal. I haven't had a single failed bank transfer, and have literally almost 20 times the amount of the order in my bank account. I also made several other orders right around the same time that went through the debit card just fine. That's what baffles me, I can't seem to figure out any reason it would be doing this.

Thanks for the reply and info.

some debit cards, like the Paypal business debit card has a daily limit, max is $400.

Dunno about yours, but Paypal has been rather strict lately,so like the other poster said, there may be something which did not pass the risk test.

Paypal does not have real time information on how much you have in your bank account, only your bank knows.

(when you use your bank account to pay, your seller is paid instrantly but it takes days for Paypal to collect that payment from your bank,It could be that after a few of these instant payment transactions,Paypal decides to take a break and opt of echeck.)

ACH takes a few days,so in fact Paypal is subsidising both you and your seller, your sells has the money before Paypal collects it from your bank account, and pAYPAL advances you the money to pay the seller so you can get your item faster,Paypal could have a limit on how much it wants to subsidise.

I'd wondered about this, too, but I've got a US Bank card and the daily limit is set to $4,000.

Didn't know about the other stuff. I have been making quite a few orders lately. It's odd, though, that I was able to make other purchases just fine before and after that went through my debit card just fine.

Thanks for the info. 🙂

Don't have a credit card, just debit. 😞 Thing is, it's not saying anything about an echeck at checkout, & most orders go through just fine. If I selected the use credit/debit instead of Paypal option at checkout, would that avoid the echecks, even though it still goes through Paypal?

I wound up here because the same thing just happened to me. The holidays have arrived and PayPal has always been my favorite way to get funds and gifts moved because it has always been super fast for all parties involved. 5 days? Okay, 3 business days, but it's still 5 days before those funds are available to the seller. And no, the only way I found out was when I was told the funds had not been received and I began digging. Sure, I sent the trans. number, but what the heck? A warning sure would be nice.

Your seller should received your payment immediately after you made payment,if it is with held for 3 -21 days, that has to do with the seller, maybe he is new to selling or been away from selling or selling outside his avearge price range.

most sellers would then upload tracking and once it is delivered, the fund will be released in a few days.

Experienced sellers with good track records have no hold.
