Phone call would be to the Vanilla gift card customer service, not PayPal.

Yes if you threw away the receipt and than on top of that the gift card since most merchants even ask this card has no more value due you want to keep it or throw it away. The response should really depend on what was purchased with that card. Perishables chances are your not returning but if it's electronics, clothes, jewelry, parts, etc. who knows dang right you may find an issue later with said items. Always good to purchase things meaning perishables, alcohol, gas, smokes, memberships, lottery, dinning etc. with gift cards since chances are that alcohol or gas won't be returned or have an issue. Just keep that in mind the next time you use your gift card. If it's for a particular merchant your stuck keep the receipts and card always due to the predicament your in.

Would PayPal even give you the entire card number like that if you called?  Should the reps even have access to the card numbers to give out like that?  I personally doubt it.

I don't know about your experiences but out of the 3 times I've come in personal contact with someone from Paypal. I've had to get 2 new card numbers out of 3 times. So, yeah maybe they don't completely have the whole number but some of those employees seem to be into some i tune purchases or even try cash advances from other countries. I wouldn't suggest all are not trust worthy but this was mainly when Ebay and Paypal were merged. Like I said 2 for 3 since last time I expected same result but was supprised it didn't get a bank text, email nor call....great there are actually trust worthy people out there.
