eBay dispute and PayPal.

I recently sold a laptop on eBay and the buyer opened a return/refund case against me. I did not agree but my only options right now are to return it, send a message to the Buyer or wait until Aug. 15 when eBay will "step in" and do their eBay Money back guarentee thing. Can I file a Paypal seller protection case to make sure that I don't lose the money when I listed my item correctly and the buyer is filling an incorrect case against me?

There is no such option as opening a seller protection case.

Seller protection covers you for 'false' disputes for non receipt of item if you can provide a tracking number.

Or they cover you for unauthorised transactions or chargebacks as long as you met all the requirements of seller protection on the transaction.

If you have a dispute for item received but not as described on Ebay or paypal then you nearly always have to accept the item back for a full refund to the buyer but wait until Ebay make a decision.

However if Ebay find in your favour then the buyer may well open a paypal dispute and would more than likely be successful there BUT would have to return the item back to you first.

As a seller, you cannot file a dispute as there is nothing to dispute.

Just be aware that the buyer has multiple progressive options to get a refund.

1.  eBay dispsute

2.  PayPal dispute where buyer can get a refund with return

3.  Credit card dispute where buyer gets a refund without return and seller gets a $20 chargeback fee.

Choose your battles carefully and make sure you understand the implications at each level.

It is often in seller's best interest to settle a dispute privately in order to avoid eBay and PayPal dispute forced settlements.

ebay will not review your case unless one of you decide to get Ebay involved by escalating the case to Ebay.

so right now,you have done nothing,so if buyer does nothing, then case will close in your favor and canot be re-open on Ebay.

if buyer ask Ebay to review, chances are eBAY will grant him a return and make you print a return shipping label, once he shipped using that label, cost of postage will be charged to your seller account, once it is returned to you,the original payment will goback to the buyer.

if you do not print the return shipping label,Ebay will do it for you.

it is very hard to fight 'item not as described'esp when it comes to electronics,it could be damaged in transit,if it is used,it can fail any time.

Ebay buyer protection is good for 30 days, after that he can file with Paypal within 180 days ,if he wins ,he pays return shipping.

if he loses,he can go to his cc issuer if he pays with credit card,he has 180 days,he may not have to return the laptop and get his money back and you wil be charged a $20 chargeback fee.
