EMV Chip Card Reader not working

I got one of the new readers a couple months ago and it worked fine up until a couple weeks ago. Now it won't read chipped card. It doesn't recognize when a chipped card is inserted. I tried both reset options, and even the factory reset with new updates didn't help. Anyone have any suggestions? I have gone back to the triangle, but I hate not being covered when I swipe chipped cards!

Will the bluetooth reader work with a card swipe?  If so, does it recognize a chip card and indicate to dip rather than swipe?

 

Does the display show any error when you insert a chip card.

 

 

Best to call PayPal customer service and make sure you talk to a PayPal Here specialist.  From my experience they are quite helpful with troubleshooting device problems.  Just make sure you get to a PayPal Here specialist.

 

You coud try uninstalling the PayPal Here app and then downloading and installing again.  That was suggest for another issue I had earlier with the read and it worked.

 

I use the bluetooth reader for local event sales.  The only problems I've had are failure to reconnect sometimes when the tablet goes into sleep mode and won't recognize the device even though it is in search mode.  I also had a problem when I forgot which way to insert the chip card.

 

I also have a Woosim bluetooth printer which works fine with my Samsung Galaxy tablet.

If I swipe a chipped card, it tells me to insert it  (not tap). The display doesn't change when I insert a chip card - like it doesn't even know something is in the slot. 

I emailed customer service and they emailed me back once (a couple days later) and have yet to get a response from my further replies.

It would seem to be to be a defective insert slot.  Has he happened with all chip cards or just one?

A phone call to customer service would be your best option.  Attempting to resolve a technical issue by email to customer service won't be easy.  Talking to a PayPal Here specialist really should be the best and quickest way to get a PayPal solution.

No reply to this? I have the very same problem. Used to work fine...fabulous actually. Suddenly it won't connect. Bluetooth not finding the device and if i try to charge, it says 'card reader not connected'. I updated the app and still not working. Rebooted card reader, ipad (IOS9.2.1), app. No change.

 

I paid a TON of money for this reader and need it to be working.

 

How do I resolve this by Saturday March 26 when I need to use it again.

 

The older triangle device appears to stil work fine.

The sequence of opening app and device seems to make a difference.  This is what seems to be the most reliable when there is an issue:  Make sure the PayPal Here app is closed.  Turn on bluetooth device and wait until it the deisplay shows that it is ready.  Then, start the PayPal Here app. It should connect.

Once the readerseems to get hung up on waiting for the tablet, it doesn't seem to do anything unless one goes through the startup again.  If the device and tablet both go into sleep mode, one needs to tap  reader button to wake up the deivce first and then wake up the app.

I don't know if it's a software or hardware issue.

The device never shows it is ready. Bluetooth not listing it on ipad as found, nor is the bluetooth light on, on the device. I have used the sequence you suggested.

 

Thanks anyway. Had NO problems before tho i did experiece the sequence thing you mention. I know what you are talking about. This is definitely not working now.

Suggest you log onto your PayPal account and call PayPal using the one-time pass code.  If more people call in and identify the problem they might find a faster solution.

By the way, I use a Samsung S2 Tablet, Android.

I just got off the phone with a PayPal Here specialist.

They are aware of the issue; it is logged into their system, but they haven't identified whether it is a hardware or software problem.  i provided them with more details to add to the ticket.

They did confrm what I arleady mentioned: the order of startup is important and sequence of waking up from sleep is imporrtant.  Retarting the reader and then starting the app when the reader is ready should work when there is a problem.

I decided to stick a paper clip into the small hole and do a factory update. It did and then said I need to update software by turning on app. Did so, and app prompted for a software update. It finished that and I am now good to go!!!

 

Seems that there needed to be an update, but when out in the field with my cellular data turned on my ipad, nothing was happening. Couldn't even update the app at that time. Now everything is updated.
