Getting a refund to American Express Gift Card?

I recently made a purchase on www.pcsupply.com, through PayPal using my American Express Gift Card, for $13.95 alongside a $1 AVS charge. I cancelled the order through PCSupply, who was very helpful, and said the order was cancelled immediately.

They also said if I used a credit card, I would see the refund reflected in 1-5 business days, or immediately if I used PayPal.

My question is, I don't quite get if I used PayPal or a credit card. The checkout process had me click the PayPal option, then choose American Express card type and then enter my information. It all went through just fine, however I'm still waiting on a refund for $14.95 combined from PayPal to my gift card.

Its only been 2 days since the purchase and subsequent order cancellation, but I'm curious as to the correct people to contact should my statement not reflect the refund. Has anyone gone through this before? Are the PayPal charges listed on my gift card's statement a PayPal issue, or an American Express one? And, how long should I wait before I become worried that PayPal cost me $14.95 of my gift card's balance?

Thank you in advance. This is my first time using PayPal, so I'm a bit confused about certain things.

Here's a few tips on the how refunds are handled:

If you paid using your PayPal Account Balance or Bank Account, the refund is credited back to your PayPal Account Balance. Times can vary for many reasons, it can take from 1 day to several days depending on the funding source used by the party doing the refund.

If you paid using a credit card, the refund is credited back to that card. That process can take up to 2 weeks for the credit to appear on your card statement.

If you paid using a prepaid type card, the refund is credited back to that card however, as many cards are not reloadable, you have to contact the card issuer for assistance with getting the credit reapplied to the card.

Alrighty, thanks for the info, snowshoe. I appareciate your advice. 🙂

As I said, its an American Express gift card, and I bought it at my local Rite Aid, as I'm going on a trip soon and just wanted it for convenience.

I didn't sign up for a PayPal account until after I made the purchase, which still has no balance. And, I double checked the balance of my gift card today to find no credit, either. So, should I just give it a few more business days? And, who would you recommend contacting? My local drugstore, or American Express themselves?

Thanks again for your help.
