If its already been sent to a debt collection agency they ''may'' have to pay them direct.

Best to check with customer services first.

In that case,he is better off paying the collector and get it over with.

For such a small amount,I wonder if Paypal just sold it to some collection outfit which employs an army of telephone collectors calling the debtors.

These dead beat receivables are often sold for pennies on the dollars and whatever the collector can collect,it is better than nothing .

NOW you have to worry what will Paypal do with your account?

But if they pay the debt collectors their account may stay in negative, best to get clarification from paypal first.

And yes it probably just is a collection agency, they don't have much power but they can be a pain if they keep ringing every day and i think they can turn up on your doorstep but whether they would for a small amount i have no idea......never been in debt myself luckily.

if paypal passed the debt to collection agency the balance on his paypal account should be $0.00.

meaning he still have option to pay for it via paypal he just need to click the balance in his paypal account

how can he pay if his balance is zero?

What has happened to some folks with negative balance is that when he goes to make a payment using his credit card, that negative balance is attached to his payment ,say he wants to pay $50 for an item he bought using his credit card,Paypal just tack on that 57 dollars, making his credi card charge $107

paypal will send the amount to the collection agency making balance $0.00 and the paypal account will get lock and tagged as charged off (which they need to pay it via collection agency and not paypal)

this also happens to cable companies like comcast.

but OP is still seeing the negative on his paypal account so he can still pay it using the paypal account.

as for issue with negative being charge along with a purchase , I really have no idea. I assume it was 2 separate transcaction linked into 1 parent transaction

You are right in that it is odd if paypal have already passed the debt to debt collectors !!
