Paypal and Reverb Forcing returns beyond any retailer

My question is, why are sellers using PayPal held to a higher standard than any other retailer? I sold an electronic guitar pedal on Reverb. Buyer paid with PayPal. He received the item and had it a week or so. Contacted me stating a wire inside the pedal was "poorly soldered." He wanted to keep the pedal, but wanted $40 for repair. I told him I wouldn't pay for repairs, but to send it back for a refund. He again bargained to to keep the pedal, but now wanted $50. At this point he sent me a picture of the "bad solder.". He had completely disassembled the pedal and was holding the circuit board in his hand. This voids the manufacturer warranty and return policy of every retailer in the country. I then refused his refund and contacted reverb as he had disassembled and tampered with an electronic device. I eventually agreed to take the item back granted Reverb reimbursed me for shipping, the negative feedback he left was removed and I was allowed to inspect it before issuing the refund. All parties agreed. Today, without me even receiving the pedal, paypal stated they sided with the buyer and refunded his money. Now I have no money, bad feedback and no pedal. What's going on here?

Appeal the case at PayPal when the button appears.  For items significantly not as described, PayPal will side with the buyer but the item has to be returned.  The dispute bots are working over time again.  Appeal and call in to speak with a dispute specialist.  PayPal messed up on this dispute, they should refund you for that boo-boo.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

PAYPAL bot should not close the case without asking the buyer to return the item, upload tracking and then when tracking shows delivered, either seller or Paypal can close the case and refund in full/

There must be something in the case which triggers refund with no return, and it is not the robot working over time OR this is a software glitch.

Did you respond in a timely manner,if you do not respond to the case within given time frame, the case wil close in buyer favor.?

review Paypal seller protection and case resolution,go to resolution.close case and see the stages.

I responded the same day the claim was filed. When I contacted reverb, they said they had not released the funds and that paypal had issued the refund without their consent. If that's the case and paypal is going to go over the heads of the brokering company, there's really no reason to even evolve reverb. The buyer and I had reached a deal through reverb, yet paypal issued the refund without the buyer fulfilling that agreement. The pedal had arrived at my local post office, but not my house when the refund was issued. In the end, I picked the pedal up the next day, the buyers bad feedback was removed and reverb gave me $15 in "reverb bucks," to make up for the shipping. It's not cash but better than nothing. It's all closed now, but in the end, I still don't feel like I should have had to return the money since the buyer tampered with the device. I see it no differently than buying a TV at Walmart, it doesn't work so you take it apart, then show pictures of you taking in apart to the Walmart manager while you ask for a refund. They're gonna tell you to **bleep** off. But what ever. Lesson learned and I went back to using local buy/sell/trade sights as much as possible. I don't sell online much anyway and this has reminded me why.

WHO HAS THE ACCOUNT WITH PAYPAL?

YOU OR REVERB?

IF ALL transactions go thru Reverb paypal account, then Reverb gets hit with the dispute,it should respond in a timely manner.

If it does not, then Paypal sides with buyer.

if it is your PAYPAL account, then you did not respond in a timely manner and Paypal close the case in favor of buyer.

In either case, appeal, either you or Reverb

Does Reverb understand how Paypal dispute works?
