MAD AS HELL OVER PAYPAL SETTINGS

Yesterday I made a large appliance purchase through Sears.com. I had been waiting until the right sale to purchase this for a new house we just closed on. I intended to use my generous $2,000 Bill Me Later account for a $1,500 purchase so I could postpone the payment until after Christmas and save my cash. I changed my Paypal settings to Bill Me Later preferred. I even entered an online chat with a Papal rep who assured me that the setting would automatically revert to Bill Me Later. After the transaction went through I checked my status and found that my Available Balance was $0.00 and the transaction had also been funded by my checking account. This has left me overdrawn and pennyless. Apparently Sears.com does not accept Bill Me Later.

My HUGE question (and one that apparently cannot be answered) is if the merchant did not accept my preferred payment option why did Paypal authorize the use of my other sources? The transaction should have been canceled and I should have been notified.

I have canceled the order at the disappointment of my wife and now we are left with the horror of trying to make it through Christmas without any cash since the refund from Sears won't happen for 3-5 business days.

I am seriously considering cancelling Paypal. Haven't had thte time to cruise the board to see if others have run into this, so I apologize if it is repetative.

Good luck on trying  to close your account. I have  'automatically' paid my phone bill (ONE bill) 3 times each month since August of this year. And, yes, I have 'automatically' paid my one bill 3 times this month.

Evidently someone doesn't understand the spoken English language and doesn't follow through on what they say they will do. CAN'T WAIT to be rid of PayPal!
