I have received this email. Since I didn't buy anything from that company, I am 99% sure it is a scam. Anything I can do to protect myself?

The clue is the link that they supply for you to ''cancel'' the transaction.
DO NOT click on it because if you do you would enter your log in information to paypal and give away your paypal account to scammers.
Paypal would never send an email like that as you don't cancel payments that way, you have to contact the seller OR open a paypal dispute etc.
If ever in doubt just log in to your paypal account normally and if the transaction is not listed then you have not paid it.
