I am looking to use PayPay credit to purchase and Apple Watch via apple.co.uk but I have been refused. I do not have the best credit. So this is probably why. My father has then attempted with his PayPal account and has also been declined. My father has excellent credit. Could you please advise why someone with good credit would get refused for PayPal Credit?
Thanks

I was also refused credit for an apple watch last night online. I have a credit rating of 999 on eperian and 631 on Noodle (the agency Paypal use). Both are classed as excellent and highly unlikely to be refused credit. I have followed your instruction and called the helpline but in all honesty they were no 'help' just advising me to go back to the credit referencing agency. The agency have no idea why I would be refused credit and all of my information is correct.
It looks like there is a problem with Paypal's automated checking of this information as why would so many people with excellent credit ratings be refused? Is this someothing you can look into and perhaps feedback to the community? If there is something wrong with the automated process then it will be leaving a negative foot print on my credit file that is entirely unwarranted. With the lack of assistance coming from the 'helpline' it' svery frustrating trying to get to the bottom of it.
Thanks

just had the same. have an amazing credit rating and never been denied or had any faults in payments
i have far more income than outgoing and the credit was just £499 for a dyson vaccum
Dyson just lost a purchase as i was only interested in it as it was interest free and i didnt have to pay the full amount
it got declined and the email is nonsense to be honest
clearly you have a problem with the system that you need to address and i suggest fixing peoples credit ratings that now show a decline because of a system glitch
I would also state that you take into account paypal history which is outside of the credit checkers so why cant you let on to what these things are and for customer service to be able to give us a reason if its anything to do with paypal history.
you may well have an issue with the financial ombudsmen if you are not being transparent with how you credit check as its damaging to peoples files

I have also just applied for pay pal credit, and have good rating yet was denied, apparently in seconds without me filling out any information or any application form. I also recieved a email stating that, my application(?) was carfully considered and processed using the automated credit and risk assesment system. As some one who uses pay pal regularly and didn't fill in any information. Did they just use my card details? I can't call anyone as i was hoping to use the pay pal credit to buy a phone. But i can't do that without calling about the errors, or problems i'm facing, and an fully automated system to review applications is silly. It's obviously been a hinderance for over a year...?

Same thing just happened to me as well.
Franky... if I don't qualify, then I can't imagine who can!
Retired with a decent income. Own my own property outright. Two credit cards (paid off each month) and Ive had loads of HP / loans over the years (currently got a brand new Ford Focus ST3 on a PCP) etc. etc. etc. Never missed a payment on any loan etc., never been in the red in any Bank Account (even when in business for myself). Also used PAYPAL (regularly) over several years (with no issues etc.) And on and on and on.
Only looked at this because Paypal SPAM'd me with an invite to apply and it seemed like a decent way to potentially spread the costs of a larger purchase over 4 months (IE. free short term loan).
I shall be making further enquires. But if this has put a black mark against my credit rating, then I shall be speaking to my solicitor.
PAYPAL... I SUGGEST (like others) THAT YOU REVIEW YOUR AUTOMATED SYSTEM.

It's almost like PAYPAL credit don't want customers with a good credit history! Or am I being paranoid.
I suppose it's rather like your traditional plastic credit cards. These companies prefer people who don't pay off their credit cards every month. As that's when they make their real money.
Can't see that I'll loose any sleep over this. Just seems crazy to me.
You would have thought that they would take into account your PAYPAL history as well as doing the standard checks etc. In my case, I've been using PAYPAL pretty much from day one! Both as a buyer and a seller. I sudder to think how much money I've put trhough PAYPAL over the years.
O'well... one of life's little mysteries.

I too have been refused today, as the check was so instant, maybe two seconds it could not have possibly been done. I have used PayPal for years with no trouble. I have assumed, rightly or wrongly that the system is set up to spot the age of applicant, I am 70 and very solvent, I was intending paying with credit for an article worth approx£400 with a deposit of £200, ie I wanted to pay around £20pcm 24mths which seemed a good deal. As others have stated you cannot find out why you were refused, so I am going to my solicitor for him to do the job as I also do not want a black mark against me simply because PayPal are agiest.

I read this thread and was a bit worried.
Basically, wanted to apply to spread the cost of the iphone (4 months = 0%).
I don't think I have an excellent credit history (596 on noddle), + the mortgage I am paying off + student load I am also paying off.
Initially thought of calling Paypal to find If my application would be successful, BUT then simply applied without calling.
No problems whatsoever. Got £1000 paypal credit.
