Transferring money to French bank account

Hi,

I'm with PayPal UK and have a UK bank account registered. I spend some of the year in France and have a French bank account. I would like to transfer money to that account. I thought that I'd be able to register a French bank account but PayPal only seems to accept UK or US banks.

Is there a way round this?

Hi Titus,

You are correct in saying that you can not add a French bank account on to a UK PayPal account. As each account is country specific you can only add financial information for the country you have opened the account in. Such as UK bank account on a UK PayPal account.

As a way around this may I suggest that you open a French PayPal account and add your French bank account on to it. Then when you wish to withdraw funds you can send  your funds from your UK PayPal account to your French PayPal account and then withdraw them to your French bank account.

Also remember that if you are transferring your funds from your PayPal balance that if you send it as a personal payment there will be no fees for the transfer.

Thanks for your reply. That's the way I think I'll have to go. Only difficulty that I've now got is that I can set up an account with PayPal France, but it seems to insist that I use a French address (i.e. the country defaults to France and I can't seem to change it). Not a problem you might think but my French bank recognises my UK address rather than my French one!

Hi Titus,

Do you have an address in France? If so add it on as your home address. Unfortunately if your bank account is registered with a UK address it will not accept it. You will need a French PayPal account with a French address and French Financial information that is registered to a French address in order for it to work correctly.

I am currently in France with a french bank account (with french address) and french paypal account, but will be returning to the US. I'll have to change my French bank's address to my US address, but I will need to continue transferring money out of my french bank after I return to the US. 

If I continue the transfers without updating the french bank account address to the US address (since it's not possible) on paypal.fr, will it fail? 

I have maxed out my allowed transfers for the month, so I have to transfer more in May.

Hi there agchem18,

If you change the billing address registered to your French bank account to a US address and continue to use this bank account on your French PayPal account this will cause your bank to fail our Address Verification System. Also, as PayPal is country specific you will not be able to add this French bank account to your US account.

If you have addresses in both countries, you can keep your old PayPal account and create a new one, but only one of your accounts can be a Premier or Business account.

I tried a PayPal account registered in the Czeh Republic. I tried to create another one registered in France but it doesn' t seem to work. Is it that one can' t have 2 PayPal accounts linked to the same email address?

Yes, your email account identifies the paypal account you are using, it can't do that if you are using it for x2 accounts.
