Renting holiday villa abroad (buyer protection apply)

Hello,

I am planning on renting a villa in Italy (I live in the UK) and the owner is happy to send me a PayPal request so I can use a credit card.

so my questions are:

does PayPal protection protect me (as long as I click on goods and services)

and or/

ive linked my MasterCard credit card to PayPal and have no credit in my account...if PayPal does not cover me would the charge back service cover me if something went wrong? (I understand section 75 does not work if using through third party eg Amazon or PayPal)

Many thanks for your help

In the terms of buyer protection it states 'Your purchase is an eligible purchase. Purchases of most goods and services are eligible (including travel tickets, intangible items such as rights of access to digital content and other licences), except for purchases of the following :
real estate (including, without limitation, residential property);
businesses (including, without limitation, any items or services forming part of a business or corporate acquisition);
vehicles (including, without limitation, motor vehicles, motorcycles, caravans, aircraft and boats);
custom made items (unless they are claimed to be Not Received);
goods and services prohibited by the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy;
industrial machinery used in manufacturing;
items equivalent to cash (including, without limitation, gift cards);
goods and services purchased using Zong, Website Payments Pro, Virtual Terminal or Personal Transaction payments; and
any wager (whether by way of backing or laying against any outcome or otherwise) and any other opportunity to benefit from a gambling activity (if you are purchasing as a UK resident user of PayPal).'

so does renting a holiday cottage for a couple of weeks count as 'real estate (including, without limitation, residential property'?

cheers

Hi there Jlo31,

Welcome to the Community!

Thanks for reaching out to us in regards to this.

If you are enquiring about renting a property, this would be considered as a service. What you highlighted in our User Agreement would refer to if you were purchasing a property itself through PayPal.

You would be paying for a service to stay in a property so that would be covered under our Buyer Protection Policy. Depending on how your payment would be funded, you may also be covered with your funding source. This would be something that you would need to check with your bank directly as we would not be in a position to advise you on that.

If you would like more information on our disputes process and how you can initiate a dispute through PayPal for a payment that you have sent, you can find more information through our Help Centre here http://ow.ly/Nm4w8

I hope this helps.
David.
