Are deposits refundable?

I accepted a deposit on a vehicle and the final payment was to be made 7 days after the auction ended.  She made the final payment way after the 7 days.  I made every effort to her so she didn't lose the deposit and she ended up making the final payment after several broken promises.   She sent final payment but according to her I did not respond fast enough to her to come pick up the vehicle - which was only 2 days because of the holiday weekend.  She has put a stop payment on her check for the balance and is now threatening to retract the deposit from Pay Pay?  Can she do this since she has changed her mind about buying the vehicle?  i am really confused about this and feel that i don't need to refund her the deposit.

Yes, you have to refund the deposit.

In the real world no deposit are not refundable as long as they are a small fraction of the total cost of the item. BUT in the Paypal world yes they are so remember that in the future anything a customer asks for... you are pretty much locked into accommodating. I have found that out the hard way. Thankfully it rarely happens but when it does rather than justify how right you are it is just best to give the money back. Because Paypal will almost always side with the buyer. Which a few times when I purchased things online and things truely were bad I was glad to have the protection. But not so happy when I was the seller and I know I did everything by the book and the buyer was a bit shifty.

How does one accept a deposit and total balance later from a customer? Is it possible with buttons?
