Chargeback

I am recently involved with a chargeback case whereas I am the seller in this case. This is the first time this has ever happened to me aqnd hopefully the last. My question being if for any reason they find against me in this case (hopefully they don't!) how do I go about receiving the merchandise back for the customer. Do I lose the sale and the buyer also gets to keep the merchandise in question???

Why do some customers do chargebacks ,wouldn't it be easier to contact the seller first and try to resolve the issue before any drastic steps are taken such as chargebacks. I feel completely helpless in this matter but did follow chargeback procedure and now all I can do is wait...

Also is there a chargeback fee that goes along with the investigation???

Here is what happend with me- the buyer opened a case on e-bay and i won, after that she did a chargeback with her CC company ( i only accept paypal on my ebay) and after providing all the evidence they still decided the case in her favor. Here is the problem- i dont understand why paypal believes the buyer when she said the item not as described or damaged??? I provided proof that she got exactly what my ebay decription said. And now they gave her the money back, i dont have the item ( $150 value) and the buyer is not responding to my emails. Paypal tells me i am not covered under sellers protection because of the chargeback. So what do i do? No item, no money??

Thanks

Hey all, lemme try and answer as many chargeback questions in this as possible.

First off, there is a chargeback fee of $20 dollars when that's charged when we dispute the chargeback.  Depending on the situation (i.e. if you are covered for Seller Protection), we may not charge that, but in a lot of cases we do.

Mspoppi- We certainly would like our buyers and sellers to work things out without getting anyone involved. They have a right to dispute charges with their credit card, and in most cases we will dispute on your behalf with the credit card company. The problem with all the scenarios here is that the credit card company makes the final determination.  Even if a dispute is filed with us first and we decide in your favor, the credit card company may come to a different decision and we have to abide by it. 😞

Jugnoo is correct on the timeframes; if we're disputing and you're not covered for Seller Protection, it takes between 75 to 80 days for the credit card company to tell us what the outcome is.  This is just one of the reasons we like our dispute process better. Way faster 🙂

ginka09, same situation as Mspoppi. Even if we side with you, the buyer can dispute through their credit card and then we have to abide by their outcome. Is it what we want to have happen? Certainly not. But if we're to process credit cards, it's what we have to accept. 😞

Hope this answers some of your concerns

i recently got favored by paypal ... they closed it for couple days ...THEN they reopened for who knows?????even though they say they do not reopen cases.... now they say when the buyer ships me back the item i sold him after a MONTH AND A HALF i will have to refund him his money... this isnt just a hunder bucks either....

PAYPAL just takes the easiest way out... most likely they have too much trouble getting Credit Card companys to get the money back so the seller is F*** basically.... thats just my opinion why i think paypal does it but i might be wrong ...

:smiley's-happy:

My chargeback case has had a happy ending, the money for the sale was placed back into my account.I was charged a slight fee for their assistance in the case and I can't argue with that altho it doesn't seem fair..but not complaining..

My customer did send me feedback and I imagine he is satisfied with the results also, never did figure out why it was opened in the first place. The man appears to have oodles of money and his little purchase of  ($485.) wouldn't hurt his fat credit card I am sure,he probably owns the credit company..lol

All in all to my fellow sellers that run across chargebacks,I do wish you luck in the end results and hope that all ends well!

I have learned by this experience and hopefully don't run across it again!

Congratulations Mspoppi!

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you as a seller. Can I ask what sort of actions or proof you provided to help win the case? I could use all the advice I could get right now. (My dispute is for the same value of money, and I'd like to keep what I rightfully earned) Also, did it really happen as fast as from your first post here to your recent one? Mine was opened back on the 7th and I have provided large amounts of evidence and proof and am still awaiting any sort of contact/decision. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Also, to Paypal employees: does any of this change when they simply file a chargeback? They in no way mention the item (that I have proof was delivered) being falsely damaged or not-as-described, it simply says chargeback and that is all.

My chargeback was placed on 2/1/2011, so it actually took somewhat over 2 weeks to resolve the problem.

I had used UPS as a source of delivery,so I had to give them the confirmation number of delivery. As Ups has the receiver sign for delivery confirmation it makes it easier for a customer "not" to deceive you.

I have found in pricier items it is best to have "delivery confirmation" as it may save us the sellers a bundle of moola.

Being you have you chargeback started on the 7th,hopefully it should be resolved anyday now. But from what I hear it could take longer...lets hope in your case it isn't.

I see you want to know what the chargeback is for exactly..such as damaged goods, not as described or what...well I never did quite understand why I got a chargeback either, same boat as you.

Not to say that Ebay could pull a fast one on us to make an extra dollar or two being they do charge us a fee for chargebacks...false chargebacks,nah..they wouldn't do that now, would they????

Anyway good luck on your fight...keep me updated on when you get your decision!

The main two things that you always need to have to protect yourself is tracking numbers and if it is over $250 make sure you have signature confirmation!!!!!
