Package Missorted by Royal Mail

Hi Paypal Community,
I hope your collective wisdom can help me resolve my issue. I sold some items over two transactions to the same buyer in Cambodia. I packaged them in one shipment, and posted to Cambodia with Royal Mail International Signed For on 31 October 2017. After two days, I realised that the package was en route to Chile instead. Then it supposedly was handed over to Chilean customs on 3rd November 2017. There has been no update in the tracking since then.
I called Royal Mail twice a week, and was told that the package is still in Chile as per the tracking. I asked a Spanish-speaking friend to call the postal service in Chile, but was informed that the tracking number does not turn up in the Chilean system. The Chilean postal service insisted the item did not arrive in Chile. My buyer called the Cambodian postal service, and of course the item is not in their system either. Given that the patient and understanding buyer has waited for a month, and Royal Mail is not very helpful with locating the package, what can we do?
Should the buyer file a dispute? I don't want to lose £500 out of pocket though.
Thank you for reading!

Hi @sga29,
So sorry to hear you have had this experience. This is something you would need to follow up with Royal Mail directly on. If you sent the item using recorded delivery you should be able to open a claim with them directly for the lost item. I wish you luck.
