Welcome to the boards!

PayPal is free to send money in almost all instances.  You can see our full fee schedule at www.paypal.com/fees.

Thanks!

The problem is, that all the documentation tells you about domestic fees and the only corss border fees posted are about sales and not purchases.  I need to pay a contractor and I need specifics about how to do that and how much.  Please tell me more than the links that I have found on my own.  The reason for question, is because the info found on Paypal's site is inconclusive.

Thank you

If your PayPal account is a US PayPal account and if the payment is a US dollars Purchase Payment, you will not incur any fees... the fees will be paid by the recipient.

If your PayPal account is not a US PayPal account and if you do not have a US dollars PayPal balance and if the payment is a US dollars Purchase Payment, your payment will most likely require currency conversion and you will incur a currency conversion fee.

You can preview what, if any, fees you will be charged... login to your PayPal account, click on the "Send Money" tab, enter all fields including the contractor's PayPal account email address and click on the "Continue" button.  The following page will display the currency conversion and fees you will be charged for that payment.  It will not display which fees will be charged to the recipient.

You can then click on the "My Account" tab to exit the send payment procedure.

Thanks Sandy for the explanation.  I have one futher question.

First I have a US paypal merchant account.  I don't know if they have an account of if I will be paying direct their bank.

I am wanting to know how much his fees are, since we are trying to come up with a method of ongoing payments that are less than is paid to the contractor site.  The reason for the research is to determine what the percentage or the fees will be whether they are incurred by me or him.

I am paying him for services rendered.

Hope that makes my request a bit clearer.

Thanks for answering me.  Again, I have yet to find a link that answers this question clearly without ambiguity.

The contractor will need to have a PayPal account in order to receive a PayPal payment, and... he will need to set his PayPal account to accept US dollars in order to avoid currency conversion and the 2.5% currency conversion fee.

Your payment will be a US dollars cross-border Commercial (Purchase) Payment sent from a US PayPal account and received by a Philippine PayPal account in US dollars, and so... the 3.9% plus 30 cents Commercial Transactions - Receiving (Selling) cross-border payment fee applies and will be charged to the contractor.

For a $125.00 USD payment, the fee would be $5.18 USD = $4.88 plus 30 cents.
