I recieved a payment of 137 dollars from an ebay user and paypal charged me like $4.62 cents for the money I earned and then i had to refund the money due to the person not wanting the item anymore  and then they charged me another  $3.99 cents....   now i dont believe this is right and think its basically a legal way to steal..  what a scam

When you sign up to receive payments through Paypal, you agree to terms and conditions associated with being a merchant. It's no different if you're accepting credit card payments (which, in essence, you're doing if people are paying you through Paypal). Merchants pay fees, because this is how credit card companies (including Paypal) make their living. So stop whining. If you don't want to pay the fees, set up your ebay auctions to receive money only via check or money order. Or incorporate the fees into the price you expect the buyers to pay you.

Maybe you are a relatively new member to e-bay, but those of us who have been doing this for many years "agree[d] to terms and conditions associated with being a merchant" back when all of these fees weren't in place. And oh by the way, ebay will not allow you to accept checks or money orders any more, you can ONLY accept payment from one of the electronic methods or at the time of pickup. And if you "incorporate" the cost you get bad feedback for "shipping fees too high." I've also seen other comments indicating Paypal will cancel your account if you "add $x.xx if paying by paypal." Yes, it's a scam.

Hi. I see that you posted this back in February, and can see that you were are a New member.. So maybe you have since learnt that you are incorrect in your argument... I do not see the need to have an attitude either (re Whining) especially when you are incorrect,, makes you look a bit silly...

But then you might be in a country that has different rules as far as this goes....... here in the UK you cannot sell on ebay if you do not accept payment by Paypal..

Also it is one thing to pay paypal a fee for the item that you sell, but something else to have to pay them for 'Actually' receiving an amount of money from the buyer.. which also includes the shipping amount.! The shipping amount is 'non profit' if you charge the customer what it actually costs to ship an item.. so you loose- loose..

There are a lot of us that signed up to this system when the rules/terms and conditions were very much different than they are now... The changes that have taken place are dictated to us........... No discussion.... end of....

When you are dealing with a Monopoly/ Dictatorship, that gives you the two choices being 'Pay up' or leave,, you certainly have the right to state your point of view......

Incorporating fees is do-able for some, and taking a cut in profit per item is do-able for some, but it is dependent on amounts and turnover... Ebay ""so this means Paypal"" as well as they are the same company, are making it increasingly hard with all their 'fines' and 'penalty's' regarding feedback and DSR's,, to apply charges at all... almost forcing many to offer free shipping dependent on types of sales........  Not everything is as cut and dried as you seem to think..

The standard PayPal fee is 2.9% plus 30 cents.  For a $137.00 payment, the PayPal fee is $3.97 plus 30 cents = $4.27.

If you issue a full refund of that $137.00 payment, PayPal will refund the $3.97 portion of the fee... PayPal will keep the fixed (30 cents) portion of the fee.

PayPal does not charge an additional fee when they process your refund.

All these guys are correct, it is just one big money making scam...... different rules for different countries,,,  divide and rule. What a farce,,,  you advisor's and moderators are just making it worse... what is THIS 2.9% ?????????????

If I sell an item I have to pay 3.4% plus fee.. If I sell it abroad, I have to pay 3.9%..plus fee.. I have it in writing from paypal.. as you work for paypal,,  are you telling me that paypal is fraudulently charging me more ?????? by a whole 1%   I need a lawyer ..!!!!!

just to let every one know out there.... it is a waste of time to use paypals ""open a complaint against paypal"" procedure.... if you ask them difficult questions and they do not answer it in their reply and you ask it again, they get all testy and refuse to carry on with your complaint................... Life's just great ain't it.?????????????   well for some it is...

We are not paypal employees.  paypals standard fee is 2.9% plus 30 cents there is an additiona 1% for cross border payments.

If you refunded correctly...from the details page of the original payment paypal you are not charged any new/more fees.  Paypal will refund the 2.9 % you paid to them , but will keep the 30 cents,

Paypal + ebay is (as in single entity) a company without competition and for as long as there is no competitor this is just going to be worst.

So stop carying like a baby and take it like a man, or if you're seriously angered then build the company that will bring ebay down!!!

Pay-Pal is a "RIP-OFF"  I will never use E-Bay nor Pay-Pal ever again.  They are worse than bank fees.  And to use E-Bay you must have Pay-Pal account.  A Rip-Off  All The Way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
