I'm currently trying to sell a diamond ring on craigslist and someone emailed me saying that he would be able to send payment to me via Paypal - after I give him my email address - and that he would send more than enough extra to cover shipping. I'm wondering if it's a scam of some sort since the price is quite tempting - or if my account would be in danger somehow.
In case I didn't know about Paypal he described it to me and was accurate - in that I will wait until his payment goes through before sending the ring - but I wondered what the safest approach to this situation would be. Can I just wait to get the payment & immediately transfer it to my bank account - turning it into actual cash - before I send the ring?
Any immediate help would be appreciated - THANKS!!!

This same thing happened to me but with a check for an item on Craigslist. DO NOT fall for it. Refuse to do business to this person. I scanned the check and emailed the scan to the bank it was drawn on. They were a real bank, but told me it was a fake check. This is a common scam, because it LOOKS like the $$$ is in your account, so being the honest person you are you send the ring and the 'overpayment' to this evil scammer and eventually the bank will tell you the payment you got is bogus. Trust me, do NOT reply or deal with this person in ANY way at all. Remember, you are in control of the situation only if you ignore them completely.

It has been my experience this summer that there are many people out there trying to scam you out of your money. This year I have now had 6 different individuals try to get me to send money via Western Union to their delivery/pick up company. They always say that they are sending an extra $1,000.00 to cover the cost of shipping and insurance. They then forward me a supposed paypal confirmation number and I also get an email, supposedly from PayPal, stating that PayPal is just waiting for me to provide them with the 10 digit Western Union tracking number, and then the money will be immediately posted to my account, but that it currently being held to prevent either party from becoming subject to fraudulent activities. THIS IS A COMPLETE SCAM, PAYPAL CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED TO ME, THAT THEY NEVER HOLD ANY FUNDS WAITING FOR A CONFIRMED TRANSFER TO A THIRD PARTY.
