I've just been sent a payment request for a gumtree purchase, paypal used to show a lot more detail, I could see if I was paying a 'goods invoice' or just 'sending money to a friend' now all I have is 'payment request recieved' & a note which does say what i'm paying for, but I just can't expand any detail at all to see the type of request.
I'm wary of paying without knowing i'm protected as a few years ago I paid a £50 'deposit' on an ebay purchase (very stupid I know) which was not as described when I went to collect it, but because the money was requested as 'request money from a friend' type transaction I had no protection

You have buyer protection if you pay an invoice or money request.
You have buyer protection if you send via send money > goods / services.
You do not have buyer protection if you send via send money > friends / family.
But buyer protection is not a 100% coverall so you need to read up on it and risk assess your transactions.

Thanks for the quick response, I understand the circumstances under which i'm covered, I just can't see what type of payment request it is, there's no detail to expand it, I would call paypal to get them to check it but the line is closed now

the above pics show all the detail that I can see, the first is just my activity page, the second is with the payment request expanded. Obviously i've obscured all personal details
