Here's a scam alert for you all. I just got this titled e-mail in my spam box The sender's address given is"service (at) paypal (dot) com

The actual sending address is PayPal (at) flph262 (dot) prodigy (dot) net

This is not addressed to anyone specifically. (That, and the sending address raised red flags with me.)

The e-mail body says:

We are sorry to inform you that your PayPal Account has been suspended.

A high number of failed login attempts have been recorded on your online account.

As a security measure we had to temporarily suspend your account.
To restore your account we have attached a form to this email.

Please download the form and follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern, javascript enabled, browser
(ex: Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera 9).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely, the PayPal security team.

Attached is this item: Your Account Has Been Suspended.html (6KB)

I just checked my PayPal account and everything's OK. Thus, this message must be a scammer.

Anyone else get such a message? Any ideas on what to do about this?

Thanks for your attention.

Bob

I also received this email. When I read the questions they wanted answered the red flags went up. DOB, SS# are my big ones. My account gave me a message when I logged in that it had been restored successfully. This leads me to believe someone tried to gain access?! I would like to hear from PayPal on this as well.

Glad to know I'm not alone on this. I also hope to hear from PayPal on this issue.

Those are common phishing scams that are designed to steal your paypal passwords..  You can forward copies of the email to paypal for confirmation at spoof@paypal.com, but they are definitely fakes.

NEVER sign in to your Paypal account from an email link.

And, to make your Paypal account bullet-proof, visit the security center in your Paypal account and buy one of their security keys for $5.  It puts a separate, randomly-generated numerical password on your account that changes every 30 seconds and cannot be hijacked, even if the scammer has your password.

I have no ay of accessing your account and Paypal won't check it.

You'll have to monitor it yourself.

And get a security key to make the account safe.
