Evidently others have been getting this same message about Auto Sweep option. Would someone on this forum please check into this. We cannot figure out why this is happening. I just sent the entire message I received to this forum in hopes that I can get some sort of answer.

Good thing people didn't "put it to rest" and rely on your wrong information
.
Too bad you couldn't offer an apology for telling people to "believe what they want" instead of understanding what people were writing.
In order for it to be a phishing scam, there has to be some way for the "phisher" to access your information. As stated, there weren't any links to click on with these notifications and the URL address clearly showed it was from paypal.
Here is a lesson best learned early: You don't know it all.

There is indeed an AutoSweep function. I just finished a phone call to PayPal, going through their service call # and main menu to get to an agent. The agent redirected me to my account profile online, presuming there was already a link in the financial column (the middle column) for AutoSweep. Longish story short, the agent talked with her supervisor, and it was discovered that the link had not been enabled, refering to it as a "global" issue and oversight. She then asked me to refresh my profile page, and -Eureka - there appeared the AutoSweep link about 4 or 5 links down from the top of the column. I thanked her, she apologized for the confusion re: enabling the service. I let her know that quite a few comments had been showing up on the community forum, and she thanked me for the feedback.
What is still not clear is if each and every PayPal member will have to call Service to get the link "turned on" on their profile page. Hopefully by now the issue is being resolved systemically and all profiles will have the AutoSweep function link enabled. Otherwise, the email directing members to the function will simply cause an increasing number of Help phone calls.
Just to check, if those reading this would go back to their profile, see if the AutoSweep link is listed, and if not, hit the refresh button to see if it now appears. If not, call PayPal. It took about 7 minutes from beginning to end of call today. They'll get the message then, and the problem will be solved to the satisfaction of all.

I recieved a similar E-mail message after requesting a funds transfer from my bank account. Here is the copy:
We are processing your request to transfer funds to your PayPal account from your bank account ending in **35.
Processing usually takes 3-5 business days but may vary by bank.
We estimate that these funds will be deposited in your PayPal account by Mar 27, 2010.
We will notify you by email if we have any problems processing your request.
Important: By initiating this transfer of funds from your bank account into your PayPal account, you deactivated the Auto-Sweep option. This ensures that your newly added funds are not inadvertently transferred back into your bank account. You can reactivate Auto-Sweep at any time. Just log in to your PayPal account, go to your Profile page, and select the Auto-Sweep option.
Sincerely,
PayPal

This came from Paypal. If there is no Auto Sweep option, then what is this talking about? There is nothing linked within the message, So how could it be a Phishing Scam?

I don't think it's a phiblising threat either. Maybe it's just out-of-date. Lots of features are not available at certain times and website forget to take them off? Think?

Thank you skier. I will believe what I want. You or some one else asked me to post this as a question as others had the same email. I was just trying to get information. I am not trying to question you or anyone else.Just trying to find out the answer since there have been other incidents of this. That all. Thank you for you input. It is appreciated.
When I don't understand something, then I try to find out; through different sources. Isn't that what a consumer is supposed to do?
Thank you to everyone who has posted here. There are things I still don't understand about many programs,etc--that's why I ask questions and try to find out.

NOT PHISHING " Auto Sweep Option " is what it said it is. accessable only by the admin call customer service and say the word "help" when you get the autimated assistant. Be ready to tell them what has happened and what you would like to happen.
