I belong to a local action group that is trying to stop developers wrecking our town centre, and putting together a better community led plan. We are a not for profit organisation registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee. All money raised by the business is used for company purposes such as printing flyers and running our website. We want to be able to accept donations via PayPal and possibly sell items to raise funds for our group.
I initially set up our PayPal account as 'not-for-profit' but I was then asked for documents proving we are tax exempt, such as evidence we are a registered charity. All I have is our incorporation document showing we are a company limited by guarantee - we are not a charity. So I changed the business type to Private Company and selected Not For Profit under business information. We don't have a bank account yet - we were only incorporated 2 days ago.
Is this the right way of going about this? I want to avoid any problems in future.
