1. The email address you use with Paypal identifies your Paypal account and is all someone needs to pay you.
2. Your phone number identifies your Paypal account if using the app.
3. You can send an invoice or money request as well, this is better if you need to give a full description of any items you want to sell.
You don't need to give it for refunds, with a refund the seller clicks on your transaction in their paypal account, hits refund and it automatically goes back to the funding source you used to pay in the first instance.
