PSD2 - Am I now required to buy a phone if I want to maintain access to my Paypal account?

I do not own a mobile phone, I have never liked them, and I have absolutely no use for one. More and more services are just assuming that everyone owns one and carries it with them everywhere they go. Now, with the new PSD2 rules coming into effect, am I required to buy a phone if I want to keep accessing my Paypal account? Are there other options for receiving verification codes, or can it only be done using a phone? What kinds of phones are necessary? Can I buy a cheap clamshell with a prepaid SIM card that can receive SMS, or will I have to buy an Android phone and sign up for a contract with some telecom company?

I do not understand this obsession with using phones for verification. Two-factor authentication via email has been around for years, and my email account is not a physical object that I can leave on the bus, or which can be stolen from me, thus allowing whoever is in possession of it to access all of my personal information. A phone is infinitely less secure than a simple two-step email system.

Good morning, I have the same issues as D_Flello.
Is there a possibility to receive the dmd code by normal home phone?
I am not willing to buy a mobile phone.
Thank you.

I have a similar problem. Although I do own a mobile phone the signal is extremely weak here, so I have to walk for about up to 10 minutes and back home to receive and submit a code (need at least 20 mins before expiry). If it could be done using a landline it would be much easier. The very security conscious HMRC in the UK do this. If there is no solution for this problem I will probably minimise my use of Paypal in future.

If they do not supply an easy to use alternative, such as using my existing landline, they would appear to be discriminating against minorities - the lawyers could have a field day if that is they company policy !!

I have a related problem. I own a smart phone, but I often travel outside the EU where I do not have access to my EU phone number. In particular this would be a problem before Christmas when I buy gifts online from overseas to have them sent to Germany for Christmas. Will it be possible to have 2 numbers in different countries set up to receive the PIN?
