Paypal MSP charges in my bank statement but not in Paypal? help!

So these were all pre authorized charges and so my bank was cooperative and told me they will reverse the charges.

I want to know if the person got a hold of my paypal, bank account info, then how can just changing the debit card

prevent him/her from doing this again?

What can I do to prevent this from happening again?

Also how would they have gotten this information?

Thanks

One way this can happen is when you buy something using PayPal and your PayPal balance doesn't have enough or empty and PayPal pulls it from your bank account. Otherwise, you should go through your automatic payments and deactivate those you do not recognize (see below).

Or PayPal is verifying your funding source when you make a charge, would produce transactions labeled as MSP (Miscellaneous Payment).

Even change your password and do 2FA security on your PayPal account settings. Run an anti-virus, malware, spyware app on your devices.

Go to Account Settings (gear icon) > Money, banks and cards > Automatic payments > Set Automatic Payments

Click Merchant from list and edit payment method or cancel on the next page.

If its only happening on your debit card statement, it may not be done through your PayPal account but your card info was somehow compromised and was used by a stranger or even people within our own household. Parents have come here to say that their kids did something or the husband or wife made a transaction and forgot about it.

Here is some more info I found about it:

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

So what does paypal having to pull money from my bank account if there's not enough in my paypal balance have to do with someone getting my banking info and linking it to their paypal account so that they can make all of these fraudulent transactions?

I haven't authorized or pre authorized any payments.

Looks like, as my bank said that my card was compromised.

I cancelled it and got a new card, with a new number and password.

I don't live with anyone so that household security thing doesn't apply

What did you mean by this?

Go to Account Settings (gear icon) > Money, banks and cards > Automatic payments > Set Automatic Payments

Click Merchant from list and edit payment method or cancel on the next page.

Is that to see if any preauthoried payments were set up in my account?

By the way they are all different amounts, not the same amount

So based on this does it seem like someone got a hold of my banking info and used it to

link to their paypal account? Also if that's the case then how come my other bank accounts were used

but only the one linked to paypal?

Thanks
