Amex card suddenly refuses to appear in PayPal Checkout list

all of a sudden (maybe in the last couple months) my Amex does not appear in the list of payment methods (other cards do). i have removed the card from my wallet (where it appears fine), added it again by linking the card, or added it by typing in the card information during the PayPal Checkout process. The card saves to my wallet but it doesn't show up in the PayPal Checkout process and the add a new card appears again. 

i've contacted Amex and everything looks good on their end, and PayPal support hasn't been able to figure out what's going on either. 

the card is in my wallet:

i try to check out with paypal, and it says i need to add a card to my wallet (even though the card is already there)

when i hit add, i just get the same form again.

in addition to adding the card during the checkout process like above, i've also tried adding it by linking the card and manually entering the card. no matter which of these 3 methods, the card shows up fine in the wallet but refuses to show up during the checkout process.

i can add another credit card and everything works just fine -- it's just that the amex refuses to show up no matter what.

This has literally just started happening to me too... it's weird because I made a payment fine using the Amex a couple of days ago, then I went to book a hotel today and my Amex is just not appearing!  Very frustrating as the whole point of me using PayPal is so I don't have to put my card details in lots of random websites
