Direct Debit or Not Direct Debit

Hey there Today I received an email from PP saying my bank had refused four payments to PP because I hadn’t accepted the direct debit instruction to my bank. This mystifies me because I have been using PP for over a year with no problems. Obviously, I accepted the original DD instructions when I set up the account in the first place, so why is PP asking me to do this again? I have checked common PP Scams and don’t see this mentioned, so I’m guessing it’s a legit request? Curiously, all four payments were to US merchandisers. Anyway, thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

Have you cancelled the direct debit mandate for paypal on your online banking list of direct debits on your bank account app by accident?

Hm… you know I actually did recently cancel a DD for another PP payment only because it was a one-off payment but read as a ‘monthly’ payment on my list of purchases. Oh, dear! Do you think that would read to PP like an overall cancellation of DD payments? If so, feeling foolish 😩

When you add a bank account to paypal it sets up the direct debit mandate so that paypal can take authorised payments for any purchases you make (or pay your Ebay fees).
No company eg water/electric can take funds from your bank account on a regular basis without that direct debit.
However the amount shown is always the ''last'' transaction / amount that you paid to a seller via paypal.

Sometimes it does not coincide with the date you made the payment as paypal CREDIT the seller in advance and then paypal wait for the funds to transfer from your bank account, they can 'leave' that account at anytime from a few hours up to a few days later. Also the 'amount' can sometimes not be recognised if you used it as a part-payment with the rest coming from funds already in your paypal balance.
