MoFar,
Welcome to the PayPal Community Forums! I can understand your desire to have a different funding source for your PayPal account. Currently, this is not an option.
Funding sources through PayPal have a fixed hierarchy. The only way to change the default funding source is if you have a PayPal credit product. This is the only financial source that can change the set hierarchy and become the primary funding source..
You can still change the funding source of a payment, at the time you are making the payment, by clicking on the "Change" or "More Funding Options" link on the payment confirmation page.
Hope you are having a great day!

I am quite frustrated with the new "smart connect" and have not been able to make several purchases that were over my "credit limit" even though my back account has sufficient funds when I tried to change the payment source the only one availabe was "smart connect" then you have to wait 3 days to pay it off and make another purchase. So it forced me to do a majority of my Christmas shopping at wally world instead of e-bay. I want to be able to choose how I pay for items like the old paypal let me.

I recently make a purchase from a vendor which posted my transaction with PayPal WITHOUT logging me in to PayPal and thus, eliminating my ability to CHANGE my funding source. Having the ability to specify my own default funding source would alleviate this situation; however, PayPal seems to think that its default funding to a checking account should be forced upon all users...
Anyone found a way around this yet? (Vendor was woot.com)

I found the same issue,
Here's how you can change the funding source. they make it really easy to set up but hide it away so you continue using the buyer credit.
- on the overview page, click buyer credit (located in the bottom right under "quick links")
- Click "update account preferences"
- Click "change" under checkout preferences.
- Click the radio button for "Balance, bank, or card"
- Click Save Changes
And that's it!
Have fun!!
