Firstly if the email/text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.
Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email/text to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.
If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email or by downloading an attachment, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.
I also received a $500 deposit from Helloworld. I received an email notification address to me (had my name) from PayPal. There is no information available to contact Helloworld, and I am having difficulty contacting PayPal. The $500 is available in my PayPal account. Can this be a scam?
I contacted PayPal and this is the reply I received from customer service... PayPal representative writes: I understand your concern about the payment you received on your account. I see the payment is valid and was sent from PayPal Inc. You can be assured that they payment was sent with no issues attached on it.
I received the same deposit yesterday and contacted Paypal. They said that the payment didn't come with any information and suggested that I reach out to Helloworld. I sent them an email but haven't heard back. I also haven't accepted the money yet, just in case.
I've reached out to multiple PayPal representatives, all of which have told me that the payment is legitiment. They also suggested I reach out to HelloWorld Inc., so I emailed them. It's been about three days and have not heard anything back. There also is no option to refund the payment.
