Override of my preferred payment method

I have a serious objection to Paypal overriding my preferred method of payment without prior notification.  Working on a special project, I've collected receipts, bills and donations in my Paypal account, and currently have a positive balance.  But Paypal has used that balance instead of my stated preference for my AMEX card, without telling me beforehand, and it's really giving me problems with my accounting for the special project.   How can Paypal tell me to select a preferred payment method and then ignore it whenever they feel like it??

Hi Lllady, 

If you have a balance on your PayPal account this will always be used first. You can set your preferred payment method however if you have a balance this will override your payment method and use your balance first. I am sorry if you were not aware of this.
