I have a membership subscription site. Customers pay either using their PayPal account or their debit/credit card.
Debit/Credit card users find they cannot update their card details when cards expire and a recurring payment is due. I remember checking this a few years ago and as far as I understand, it isn't possible to update card details if you don't have a PayPal account. Has this changed?
Do customers get a notification when the card expires that is being used for a recurring payment and customer did not use a PayPal account, giving them a method to update their card?
It is not a great problem as these customers can resubscribe, but it would be neater if they can just update their card details.
Thank you.

Hello @AngieLK,
That's a great question! Since they didn't pay through a PayPal account they can login and change / modify their subscription settings, your subscribers paying as a guest would need to resubscribe to your services if their information becomes expired.

Hi @PayPal_JonK,
Did you mean 'Since they didn't pay through a PayPal account they cannot login ......' Think that was probably a typo:).
That makes sense. Yes, that is what I have been telling my subscribers and on my site, it is easy for them to resubscribe at the same price, so no penalty.
Thank you for confirming this for me.
Very helpful.
Angela

I am having the same problem not being able to update the credit card when customer current card is expired.
However, PayPal merchant sdk allow to update the credit card. I wonder why the REST api won't allow to do the same.
Also, the REST api won't allow free trial, I have to charge at least $0.01 to allow me the create a subscriber account.
Does this mean I have to continue to use merchant sdk?
