Verify Receipt

I've sent a payment to someone.  My bank account shows the debit.  Is there a way to verify the recipient has actually accepted the payment without contacting them directly?  The payment was a gift for help and the recipient my not want to accept it.  I feel awkward inquiring about the gift with the recipient.  Can I verify the recipient accepted and obtained the funds?  Otherwise, I'm debited the amount and the dollars are in limbo (where?).

I've searched the net regarding this simple question and found no answers.

Thank you.

If its marked as completed / sent next to the transaction in your paypal account then they have received it.

Thanks for your response.  However, when I send money to people, the payal status immediately shows "money sent" and never changes that status message.  I know that the money wasn't "accepted" within the milliseconds that it took me to send it.  Moreover, since the status doesn't change from "money sent" immediately after the transaction to months after the transaction, I still question the status of "money sent" as meaning money accepted by the recipient.  I guess I will have to send a test transaction and have the recipient not accept it for a few hours and then watch my payment status before and after a known acceptance.

Transfers from bank accounts or cards are never instant, that is why when you buy something paypal credit the seller upfront for you and paypal take the wait for the funds to transfer to pay them back again, this is so you get your item without delay.

If its marked as completed or sent then it has succesfully gone to the seller /merchant that you sent it to.

Just to follow up...I sent money to a friend this morning.  She did not accept it although the status on the PayPal transaction states "money sent".  However, all previous transactions I had with her that she has accepted also show a status of "money sent".  What indication do I have on any status page that shows a person has accepted my money verses when the money is floating around in limbo (sent but not "accepted")?  None.

So, for anyone following this thread, be careful.  Just because you send money to someone with PayPal and the status shows "money sent", doesn't necessarily mean they are in possession of it.  I wonder what happens to money that is sent but is never accepted?  Is there some type of time limit and then it gets refunded to the sender?  If not, it sure is a potential money maker for PayPal.  It is kind of like gift cards.  If they are lost or never used, the company make out like a bandit.
