Pay in 4 Beware

PayPal pay in 4 charged me 3 times for a purchase up front. The full amount of the order, and two other amounts for about half of the total amount of order, one being from my linked bank account . Of course pay in 4 customer service is closed today and yes these are pending transactions and I’m sure they’ll fall off, but to be out 2x the total of the item I ordered for a few days doesn’t make any sense. Then what’s the point of pay in 4??? Defeats the whole purpose. I would have been better off paying in full up front. I really wish they would explain this stupidity to me. Non the less I will not use this service again from PayPal. Never had this problem with Afterpay or klarna.

I'm sorry to hear about the three payments reflecting for your Pay in 4 purchase. When making a Pay in 4 purchase, you may see a payment authorization for the full amount on your bank account in addition to a debit for the first installment. The pending authorization for the full amount should fall off within a few days. Regarding the third charge, though, I recommend contacting Customer Support, especially if it shows that it's a completed transaction. Not good enough.  I was purchasing gifts and twice I did not pay as I had forgotten a couple of things.  Finally got things right and paid for one purchase.  Checked bank account and PayPal had withdrawn the money on the two aborted purchases.  I will not be using PayPal again.  PayPal confirmed one purchase only.  How can this happen in this day and age?  Appalling service.  People should not be out of pocket.  I just hope I get a refund.  I will call the bank when they open to see if they can help.  Not good enough PayPal.
