I am not sure I am posting this in the correct location but we just received an email from PayPal informing us that starting September 12th the backup funding from our bank account to our PayPal Business Debit Card function is going to be removed from ALL PayPal accounts. I called and spoke with a wonderful customer service rep Lori who spoke with her supervisor (and they had to speak with their supervisor). Apparently no one had informed them of this major change in PayPal business account functions.
We really rely on this benefit as we are fully self-employed with three businesses and live in a very rural area. The Debit Card backup funding gives us the peace of mind to know our accounts are running smoothly and we don't have to constantly check balances. Ours is a perishable product business and our sales are cyclical on a weekly basis, we don't have customers making purchases every day of the week.
Bottom line: booooooo to PayPal!! You just made our businesses HARDER to run on a day-to-day basis despite your claim in that very email stating your "ongoing focus on helping your business to thrive". I imagine there will be a lot of folks shopping around for other options since PayPal thinks it is fine to cut major functional benefits to their customers with no information or basis in doing so.

100% agree. I only discovered this option was ending when I logged in today to request another card in an employee's name, to make it easier for them to buy needed items when at a jobsite. I love the backup funding option as it's -not- a credit card and I get an email every time it's used. I have two cards for myself, one I keep with my work wallet and another in my purse, which also worked great as if one gets compromised, I don't have to wait a week or two for a replacement card.
Adding funds takes WAY too long. I've been stuck doing this 2-3x over the last 10 years as sometimes a gas pump will force it as a debit transaction and then lock the account up as I don't keep cash in my Paypal account. Paying Walmart to put money in my account is ridiculous.
I've been a Paypal member since it was x.com and not the new Twitter name. (Whyyyy Elon?)
Guess I'll research other options that will work well for me. I prefer to keep my bank account in a "dmz", the Paypal business debit card was a great buffer. Plus having them throw a few bucks a week at me was nice.

This really makes this card null and void for me. I use it for online groceries (among many many other things), and I do not know how much I will be spending for groceries all the time. I am not going to give PayPal all my money each month as they (as you say) are not my bank. Besides, even if I wanted to keep a chunk of my check over there, I would have to be careful to leave the right amount in my bank account for automatic payments I have there. I use my bank for automatic payments to companies that would charge a fee for using a credit card or debit card to pay them. So, I have five payments that are covered by my bank and about 10-15 (including shopping) that I use my PPBDM for. Sometimes I get paid the same day the bill is due on automatic payment. This doesn’t work for me. Does this have anything to do with the IRS wanting to see everything you are doing?

A debit card that no longer functions like a debit card. It will now function like a pre-loaded card.

Well look at that. It took them less than an hour to remove the link. Worried about competition are we? You should be PayPal, because nothing you are doing is in the best interests of your customers.
