Problem with "Pay in 3" payment in Argos

I bought an item from Argos. In payments, I chose the "Paypal pay in 3" option. Paypal required me to make the first deposit. I selected the bank option and approved.
Instead of Confirm Order, Argos directed me back to the payment page. Purchase not confirmed, not showing up in my account. PayPal authorizes the payment. I would like to cancel the authorization because I don't want to end up without an item I have to pay for at the end of the day. The Argos-Paypal system does not inspire my confidence at all. I will buy an item using a debit card.

The authorization will expire and drop off by itself in a few days, or on the extreme side, after 30 days. An Authorization is simply funds earmarked for the purchase. It hasn’t been transferred over to the merchant yet. If authorization still remains after 30 days, contact PayPal or your bank to void it.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

I'm so glad I found an answer to this as I had the exact same issue with the Argos pay in 3 method. Was panicking as £80 had left my bank account but no confirmation of order and flickig back to payment screen. Ended up having to use my savings to buy the item

What happened to the £80 that left the bank? Did they return automatically to the bank? How long before they returned? I am asking because I am in the same situation and not sure what to do - shall I buy the item with other funds, or wait for a confirmation of purchase?

Had the same issue just now. Accidentally paid a second time as well because I thought the first one didnt go through. Any option apart from waiting?

Literally just did the same thing. Has it cancelled the authorisation yet/have you got your money back?

Hi this has just happened to me. Taken 2 payments but I never hit the button for the 2nd. So now £74 out of pocket and no transaction order for the item. I now can't afford to buy it. Was for my daughters flat. Livid

This pay-in-3 option is great for spreading the cost but the issue you experience is a common thing with PayPal, it's not Argos or any other outlet. I've had this happen to me many times. Also PayPal sometimes takes the payment out of your back twice even with a successful purchase. Only for you to contact PayPal to double check that one of the payments is coming back, which normally takes 7 days, such a pain. PayPal know the issues and done sod all to rectify it. As with all money grabbing companies, they don't give a toss.
