TEMPORARY HOLD ON CANCELED PAYMENT VERY UPSET!!!

Someone please help me.   I made a payment to an individual using paypal and after the payment was completed she told me that she gave me an incorrect email address, so I canceled this payment.  I completed another payment to her using the second email address and I accidently typed an incorrect letter in her email, so I canceled a second payment.  Both payments were never picked up by her.   I thought, no problem, I canceled these.  I made a third payment to her and it was correct and was picked up by her.  This is the problem....Paypal has put a temporary hold on the first two payments, even though they were not ever sent and it's been 5 days!!!  My bank account  has not been refunded for the first two cancelled payments that were never even sent!  Paypal shows a hold and a release of the hold, but the two payments are not back in my account.  I am furious becuse I cannot dispute these.  WHAT CAN I DO???????

Have the funds been returned to your account yet?

Having the same problem.  Paypal states that the refund was completed, but it's not showing in my bank account and it's not in my paypal account balance.

Very frustrating, especially when you can't get anyone to help you out.

I just checked my bank account this morning, Thurs,  6/10, and the funds (twice) have not been put back in my account.  I can't do a dispute and I am still very frustrated.  This is not right!  I don't know what to do.  Thanks for answering my post, what has happened with your funds?

I believe that when you get a refund the funds go into your paypal account as a credit not into your bank account.

Paypal finally refunded the funds into my paypal account.  It took a total of 10 days.  I still think a two second error, didn't warrant this.

2 seconds is a long time to a computer.

Paypal can only instantly refund if the payment order has not gone out yet - in your case, it apparently had.

I'm there with you, PayPal stinks. I purchased item on Ebay, paid immediately, an hour later seller notified one of the items was no longer available. Seller refunded three hours after payment was made, two days later refund is on hold and a PayPal transaction shows up in my bank account removing the money, this is a crock! It's been four days now and refund still on hold.

It is frustrating.  When you make a payment with PayPal that is funded by your bank account, the payment is sent immediately and a bank transaction is generated.  Once the bank transaction is initiiated, there is no way to stop that process until it plays out, which can take 3-4 banking business days.   This is a result of the banking process that has been in place for years (before PayPal even existed).

It is a bit complex, but here is how it works.  When you send a PayPal payment from your account and your bank is the funding source (i.e. you do not have enough cash in your PayPal account, so PayPal hits your bank account), the recipient of your payment gets the funds immediately.  However, PayPal gets the cash from your bank using the Automated Clearing House process set up by the banks.  ACH works like this:  Overnight, PayPal sends a batch transaction records through a clearing house to each bank requesting the funds.  Those transactions are received by your bank the next day.  Over the next  night, your bank posts those transactions. If you have enough cash in the bank nothing more happens from your perspective.  From PayPal's perspective. a bulk transaction of all of the cash received in that batch (your cash and any others sent through that same batch) is sent to PayPal, (another full day of transmission time).  If your bank bounces the transaction, because you do not have enough cash, PayPal sends a notification (as part of another batch) back through the ACH system, which is another overnight delay.  Finally on the third day, PayPal gets all of this batch information and , if there is not a rejection for your transaction, credits the cash to your account.  If there is a rejection, PAyPal hits your backup funding source (the credit card you have on file) for the cash.  Because of the ACH process, PayPal indeed does not have your cash until the whole thing settles out.

You can watch this whole process yourself when you do an Add Funds for you bank account to your PayPal account.  Try adding $10 to your account and then keep checking your bank account for the $10 to clear.   You will see it hit your bank account a day or two before it is completed at the PayPal end.  It's lame, but that is how the bank process works.

Hope this helps.
