I returned an item via first class post to the seller, who sent an ebay message to me to confirm receipt. But paypal denied the refund just because I did not have a tracking number for it. How can I get my money back for an item already confirmed by the seller as returned? I have asked the seller to help me many times but even though they confirmed the return, they are unwilling to help and say they must wait for paypal to issue the refund. Help please.

Did you file a dispute for item received but not as described?
In that case paypal would have told you to send the item back trackable if they found in your favour.
They can't award you a refund if you can't prove you returned it.
HOWEVER if you go to the resolution tab can you add a comment to let paypal know that the seller has confirmed that they received it back and that they won't do anything until they hear from paypal.
Also i would be telling the seller that if they don't refund me now ( they don't have to wait for paypal) then you will be leaving appropriate feedback to warn other buyers.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Thanks. Yes I filed a dispute - but I posted the return already - I had already returned the item by first class post and it was too late to track it. I *can prove* that it was received because the seller wrote me a message on eBay to say that it was received.
I will go to try to add a comment on the resolution tab now, but the case has been closed by paypal just because there wasn't tracking information. I already wrote in my dispute comments that it was confirmed as received by the seller, but paypal ignored this comment and did not ask for any proof or information.
I don't want to blackmail the seller with feedback threats 😞 Besides that would be a last resort because I imagine that by this stage they don't seem to care.

To be fair paypal cannot issue a refund if you can't prove the seller got it back.
Also if the dispute is closed you won't be able to add a comment or get it reopened.
Feedback isn't blackmail what the seller is doing is theft, she got the item back but is refusing a refund.
I would email her and say that any good seller would have refunded on receipt of item back without you having to go to paypal. As she is refusing you have no option but to leave appropriate feedback to warn other buyers.

Thanks again. But isn't a seller's ebay message saying "I have received the item" acceptable proof that she has received the item? I would understand it if the seller claimed not to have received it, and I understand that tracking info is asked for for this purpose, but in this case the item was confirmed as received.
I will follow other avenues and if nothing happens I will follow your other advice. Do you think there's any point in opening an ebay dispute at this point?

So but the seller saying received it is not proof to paypal, under their rules its tracking only.
Not saying i agree with that just telling it as it is. Your seller is not being very nice or offering any customer service.
Are they a business seller ( you should be able to see under their user name on the auction), if they are you can pursue another course so let someone know.
As you opened a paypal dispute you can't open an ebay one for the same transaction.
Sorry all bad news really.

YAY!! I sent a polite message to the seller asking for a refund *again*, and they processed it! What a small life I have for this to make me happy 🙂 Thanks for your advice,

Not sure if you will receive my post as is an old thread.
It actually matters a whole lot that PayPal acknowledges 'good faith' seller receipt of the goods (especially if seller has confirmed this. Whilst I totally get strict consumer laws and legislation such as the Sale of Goods Act etc, PayPal have not always followed this to detail in their own seller/buyer protection policies. I have been an eBay buyer and occassional seller for many years - not just my current eBay account that is 8 years old and more than familiar with how eBay and indeed PayPal operate as a whole.
It should matter a whole lot that even if there is no tracking informtion for your returned items back to seller, there is an agreement between yourself and buyer that items were sent and received. The only time that PayPal should not refund buyer for returned goods, if seller denies receiving items and PayPal cannot track those items in simultaneous order. Tracking is immensley important I agree and protects buyers rights, yet buyer/seller integrity far more and just as important.
I would advise you to find some way of notifying FSA if you have exhausted all attempts at contacting PayPal (keeping a record of your efforts) calls letters and faxes and even any email contact.
