A customer checkout while sandbox API was added to my custom checkout code
because I was still testing. Is there any way to refund that amount?

Hello,
All transactions within our sandbox environment are fictitious and therefore your customer should either not have been charged or they sent a payment to an email address which is not registered to a "live" PayPal account, in which case it would have a status of "unclaimed" on the buyer's side and will automatically be cancelled and returned to the original funding source after 30 days.
Thanks !
