How long does a dispute take

I was recently conned into sending a large amount to an investment scheme that had asked for payment through family & friends. However I noticed the buyer protection tab and selected business transaction as it said a full refund would be in place if I was scammed, and funnily enough after the money was sent I was blocked. I am slightly at ease knowing I should be fully reimbursed but the timing is horrible and I need the money back as soon as possible, does anyone know how long it would take before the refund was back in my bank as I am very worried that I will struggle to afford christmas if it is not soon. thanks

Hello everyone! Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues with a recent transaction. I'll be happy to get you all pointed in the right direction.
@benstrain04 and @Temp20221218e, have you started a dispute already? If so, I would recommend escalating it to a claim as soon as you can since it seems like this is a fraudulent seller issue. After that, our support teams try to resolve a dispute within about 14 days. From there, I'd just recommend keeping an eye on your Resolution Center for any updates on your case.
@Foxyanne, depending on how you've sent the transaction, you may or may not have Purchase Protection on that payment. If you paid with Friends and Family, unfortunately the transaction would not be protected through PayPal in the event you didn't receive the item/service or the item you received wasn't as described.
If you're unable to open a dispute, I'd recommend reaching out to your bank or credit card if you used one to see what kind of options may be available.
Good luck to you all!

Hey @PayPal_JonK, i sent through friends and family. Looks like I am going to call the bank, do you think I should report fraud or just go to Billing Support? I sent over $500 for shoes through friends and family, and he blocked me right after.

Hello @carsontowt,
I'm so sorry to hear about this recent payment to someone that wasn't as legitimate as you had expected. I would follow your bank's lead on this one. Let them know what happened and they'll be able to advise you on the best course of action you have available.
Good luck on this and future transactions!
