Support for claim after 180 days

Hi, purchased an event / excursion 200 days in advance. The excursion got cancelled - now I found myself out of buyer protection (180 days limit). Case got automatically rejected/“resolved”. However we are only 18 days past the excursion date. Is there a way to re-open the claim, or have a live-chat with a human? Surely this isn’t a case of me waking up late, rather a seller not sticking to his promise to deliver (and I have written proof). From Belgium seemingly only possible to call the helpdesk, no live-chat - but since we’re in Mexico, that risks costing more than the refund I’m due … Any tips/advice?

You have buyer protection for up to 180 days only unfortunately.

Indeed… had an exchange with Paypal. Basically they told me I’m on my own. So for any pre-order item: never use Paypal as you are not protected. Better to use your normal credit card.

Unfortunately most credit cards give you even less than paypal.

Actually I disagree. It was when Worldonline opened a case, that the vendor immediately refunded me. So without this, I would still be fighting to recover my payment. If PayPal had taken its responsibility and looked at the event date instead of order date, it would have made much more sense.

They do take responsibility up to 180 days post payment as per the legal user agreement you agreed to when you opened your paypal account.

Indeed, I am just exposing the loophole that protects scamming vendors in case of pre-ordered items. I do believe it is worth highlighting that for such cases the event date should be taken, not the payment date. Paypal could have done much more, even an informal nudge, but they didn’t - implying they don’t care at all.

Guess they may be busy running the service and keeping the transactions and accounts of 403 million folks worldwide ok to worry about your pre  order to be honest.

That's why they give us all buyer protection so we can risk assess our own transactions.

I know buyer protection runs out at 180 days so I would either take the risk or not purchase.

No need to go passive-agressive. I just remember a different PayPal when I started using their services about 15 years ago. Chat support disappeared in my language, extremely hard to get a hold of anybody. For sure lesson learned on the 180 days, and for sure not my preferred payment method anymore. Generally you only have 0,1% faulty transactions, and that one time - I couldn’t count on them. That’s life. So forgive me for not being optimistic about their service…

Guess passive aggression to you is someone disagreeing with you is it?

Sorry but when I buy I know that Paypal only protects me for 180 days.

If I get scammed after that time then its me that has taken that risk and I take the hit.

Paypal is like any other payment processor, they all have their pros and cons, as I said some credit cards protect you for even less time.
