Do I have to pay money to receive money

Hi, I have someone claiming to want to help me and send me some money from overseas to Australia, they say that I need to pay processing fees before I can receive the payment to my PayPal account, is this correct, I am concerned that if I send them money that I am just being scammed and that I don't actually need to pay them so that they can then pay me, am I wrong?

100% SCAM.

You never pay any upfront fee as a seller or to receive funds.

Ignore scammers that send fake Paypal emails telling you that you need to pay an upfront fee to verify/upgrade to a business account/or any other reason to accept a payment.

You would certainly never have to send funds especially via another payment processor/bitcoins/ or tokens/vouchers of any sort.

Any fee is auto deducted by Paypal at the same instant the remainder of the payment is credited to your Paypal account balance.

No funds in your balance = you have not yet been paid, even pending/held payments will still show in your Paypal account activity.

I’m having the same issue. Someone wanted to send me money. I received an email saying I had to buy $165 in bitcoin to release my payment. I figured it was a scam. Just wanted to check out what others are saying. The help would be great but not taking a chance.

I was asked to pay a fee in order to receive money, i was even given a persons name to pay to apparently this is a direct payment to Paypal.  Apparently the money was on hold until i made the 'paypal' payment in order to have the funds released, until i did some digging around only to find that this was a scammer.  From information that i read, if someone pays you, the funds should appear in your wallet, any fees owing to Paypal will be deducted and the balance will be credited to you.  Hope this information is useful to someone out there.  Thank you to those who posted on this topic, very helpful thank you.
